Brixton Rooftop Case Study: Spotlight on London’s Hippest Christmas Venue

Brixton Rooftop Case Study: Spotlight on London’s Hippest Christmas Venue - The South Pole

Last year, a rooftop in the heart of Brixton was magically transformed into a winter wonderland, complete with an enchanted forest, woodland lodges, thousands of fairy lights, and fantastic street food and seasonal cocktails. Hosting over 800 guests, The South Pole Saloon at Brixton Rooftop is a huge pop-up party venue that returned to South London’s vibrant social scene on the 23rd November 2017.

Successfully launched in 2015, The South Pole Saloon offered even bigger and better festive spectacles than previous years, with creative food vendors, mixologist-standard cocktails and a host of top DJ line-ups and live shows. The award-winning Space Bars team were tasked with creating an atmosphere that transported guests to a fantasy world – one where a western saloon might meet Santa’s homeland after hours.

The team approached Festive Lights to provide the lighting for the installation and we supplied hundreds of metres of our connectable outdoor LED string lights, in addition to warm white festoon strings, to add to the festive feel. With spaces including three main bars and one private bar, four top street food traders, a stage for live bands and performances, and a private hire area, the whole venue relied on creating an escapist Christmas party environment, and the lights were central to the theme.

Jack Gutteridge, Space Bars’ Creative Director, said, “Brixton Rooftop is a pop-up venue, changing over the course of the year. The summer saw the rooftop as ‘Brixton Beach’ and we are launching as ‘South Pole Saloon’ in the run-up to Christmas. This means that the venue is constantly changing, offering something new to visitors. Last winter we had around 18,000 people through the door and our social media has reached over 20 million people.

“We chose Festive Lights because the company was recommended to us. The lights are being used to add to the wintry atmosphere and make the venue feel really festive. We haven’t had any technical issues with the lights or breakages either, so the quality is good.”

The pictures certainly tell the story of how successful the seasonal set up at Brixton Rooftop was; if you’d like to create something similar, or have another lighting project in mind, then get in touch with our friendly trade team today!
